Communication towards problem-solving

Everyone is in quest of a problem solver, an individual who seeks to find a solution to a given problem. Do you wish to become one? it is quite achievable through communication.

According to Merriam webster learner's dictionary, communication is the act or process of using words, sounds, signs, or behaviours to express or exchange information as well as expressing your ideas, thoughts, feelings, and imaginations to someone else.

I defined communication as the act of expressing your thoughts and intentions about a situation through writing or speaking a specified language. It's improper for you to communicate in different languages and expect your listeners to understand. It is unethical to do this.

In workplaces, communicating is an integral part of handling a project specifically in brainstorming sessions. So how do you make use of this soft skill? Well, I came up with some suggestions.

Start by observing, imagine the problem is dependent on you, think, then intentionally articulate your responses when questioned or whenever you decide to speak. By doing this, you are engaging your mind in a thoughtful process. You have solved a problem when you properly understand the problem scope and when you speak about the solution in pieces.

When you speak, observe the response and reaction of the listener. A better way to do this is to listen and be open-minded. Many times we hear, but we don't listen.

pexels-fauxels-3182765.jpg Imagine you are to speak for a team demo at work, I am pretty sure you have a topic to discuss, and you want to engage your audience and deliver value to them.

What should you do? Read as much content on the topic or related to the topic as possible, remember to keep your mind open in this process, not all you read will sync with your school of thought, but believe me, this will make you think, rethink and revalidate your thoughts about the topic.

Listen to people's opinions, especially from different age groups. Talk about the topic or a point about the topic, notice how people react and respond to you. Some will be quick to answer, some before speaking will respond with a mumbling approach (hmmm), while some will be quiet, and never speak, but never mind.

Further your research, by thinking through your user's response and reaction, a good instance of response is when a listener answers by asking a question to clarify or understand what was said, it is a good habit to inculcate, and it helps to avoid misunderstanding and misinterpretation of words. It enhances good communication habits in workplaces.

A deep understanding of what a discussion is can bring about good responses that are solution-driven. it's a good signal in helping the team achieve its set goals. While responding speak with an intention. Practice deliberate speaking with family, friends and colleagues.
